About Coin Mood Index

We believe every crypto participant deserves access to the same institutional-grade sentiment data — free, transparent, and updated daily.

Our Mission

Coin Mood Index was built with one goal: to democratise access to crypto market sentiment data. Professional traders have long used sentiment indicators as a layer in their decision-making — we wanted to make that same signal freely available to every Bitcoin holder, retail investor, and crypto curious newcomer around the world.

We don't charge for data. We don't require sign-ups to view the index. The live score, historical chart, heatmap calendar, and public API are all free forever.

What Is the Crypto Fear & Greed Index?

The crypto fear and greed index scores the emotional state of the cryptocurrency market on a scale from 0 (Extreme Fear) to 100 (Extreme Greed). When the market is gripped by fear, investors tend to sell assets below their true value. When greed takes over, speculative excess drives prices above fundamentals. By surfacing this sentiment as a single number, the index gives traders a fast, data-driven pulse check — a contrarian signal to validate or challenge their existing thesis.

The concept was inspired by Warren Buffett's famous maxim: "Be fearful when others are greedy, and greedy when others are fearful." Coin Mood Index operationalises that principle for the Bitcoin and crypto market, updated every 24 hours.

How We Calculate the Index

📉

Volatility 25%

Bitcoin's realized volatility compared to its 30- and 90-day moving averages. An unusual spike in volatility signals fear entering the market.

📊

Market Momentum & Volume 25%

We compare current Bitcoin volume and price momentum to historical averages. Strong upward momentum on high volume is a classic sign of greed.

🌐

Market-Cap Trend 20%

The 24-hour change in total cryptocurrency market capitalisation. A rising market cap reflects broader investor confidence and risk appetite.

Bitcoin Dominance 15%

BTC's share of total crypto market cap. Rising dominance often signals fear — investors flee riskier altcoins into Bitcoin as a relative safe haven.

💪

Price Strength 15%

Bitcoin's 30-day price change is the most direct measure of whether bulls or bears are in control of the current market narrative.

Data Sources & Transparency

All data powering Coin Mood Index is sourced from free, publicly available APIs — primarily CoinGecko for price and market data and Alternative.me for the historical fear & greed dataset. We do not rely on proprietary feeds, paid subscriptions, or black-box third-party models.

The composite score methodology is documented on this site. We believe transparency is non-negotiable for any tool that aims to influence financial decision-making.

Not Financial Advice

Coin Mood Index provides market sentiment data for informational purposes only. Nothing on this website constitutes financial, investment, legal, or tax advice. Cryptocurrency markets are highly volatile and speculative. Always conduct your own research and consult a qualified financial adviser before making any investment decisions.

Past index readings are not indicative of future market movements. The index is one signal among many — use it as part of a broader analytical framework, not as a standalone buy or sell trigger.
